The second MCA 20-20, revived after 05 years, played with six teams which participated in the premier league and Knockout, will get underway on February 12 (Friday). The tournament will continue till February 13 (Saturday) at the Colombo Colts Cricket Club grounds. The two finals will be played at the same venue on February 20 (Saturday).
Premier League winner, Sampath Bank will take on HNB in the first game on Friday morning, followed by the second game between Seylan Bank and John Keells in the afternoon.
On Saturday, the semi finals will be worked off where Knock-out winner, Janashakthi (receiving a bye) will meet the winner of Sampath Bank/ HNB in the morning and knock-out runners –up, Unichela (receiving a bye ) will meet the winner of Seylan / John Keells in the afternoon.
The finals scheduled for February 14 had to be postponed to February 20, due to Sri Lanka Cricket’s Inter-Provincial matches.
The play off for the 3rd place between the losing semi-finalists will be worked off in the morning, followed by the main final in the afternoon.
In the inaugural tournament which was played at the MCA grounds in 2004, HNB met Janashakthi in the rain hit final. In the “bowl out” contest, HNB beat Janashakthi 1-Nil, Farveez Maharoof managing to hit the single stump in his second attempt.
HNB was led by Russell Arnold and Janashakthi by Ranga Dias, who was adjudged as the man-of-the-tournament.
This is the very first time that the MCA has conducted three tournaments, exclusively for their Premier teams – The League, The Knock-Out and the T-20.
The league and the knock-out were sponsored by Singer. The T-20 will be contested for the MCA President’s Cup. The solitary special award offered will be for the man-of-the –final.
The morning matches will commence at 10.00 am and the afternoon matches at 2.00 pm on all three days.
