UPFA Parliamentarian for Colombo District Arjuna Ranatunga is to join apolitical Common Candidate Gen. Sarath Fonseka says a very reliable source. Mr. Ranatunga will hold a special discussion today evening and declare his support to Gen. Fonseka. He will join Gen. Fonseka’s election campaign says this sources.
Speaking at the media meeting held afterwards Mr. Arjuna Ranatunga said, “I had the belief that there should be a change in the country. I have been a Member of Parliament and a Deputy Minister for eight years. I always came forward to work for the development of sports including cricket.
During this time I spoke about corruption in the sports sector. However, those who were responsible for frauds and corruption have not been punished yet. Not even a disciplinary investigation has been carried out.
I realized that a change should be brought about. That’s why I took this decision. No one influenced me. I know that a mudslinging project is being carried out against the General. They would sling mud at me as well. However, I have the strength to stand against their mudslinging and support the General.”
It is stated that several senior ministers of the government would join Gen. Fonseka’s campaign in the near future and among them are several Tamil ministers from the estate sector. Also, several members of Western Provincial Council are prepared to join Gen. Fonseka and those who join the campaign of Gen. Fonseka would come on stage of the Common Candidate’s meetings says this source.
