Gen (retd) Sarath Fonseka has gone on a protest fast after a decision by the military to withdraw telephone facilities for the ex-army cheif to speak to his family members, a senior military officer said.

Ms. Anoma Fonseka also confrimed that Gen Fonseka is on a fast in protest over withdrawal of the phone facilities.

Military spokesman Major Gen Prasad Samarasinghe said that phone facility was provided only to speak to his family members, but it was only an additional facility provided to him.

“There is no provision that such facility should be provided to him and therefore can be withdrawn at any time”, he said.
