(November 21, Colombo, Sri Lanka Guardian) One of the Tamil politicians who is close to the government is said to have brought a women suicide bomber as part of a plot to kill General Sarath Fonseka- the former Chief of Sri Lanka Army, who led the military mission to liquidate the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam’s (LTTE) military might.

According to the weekly newspaper “Lanka”, based in Colombo, ‘the women suicide bomber identified as Vasanthi who has strong links to a Tamil politician had been given accommodation and facilities to live in Colombo. She was staying in Siddharatha Road , Kirulapana, Nugegoda.’ General Fonseka narrowly escaped a suicide attack by a Tamil Tiger suicide bomber previously when he was working as the Army Chief.

There are many news reports the government media and its supporting papers published that threatened the security of the General. It is now claimed that the government has reduced the General’s security personal to 50 military men and have given an old bullet proof car which is currently undergoing repairs in a private garage. The government has provided 150 security personal with 12 vehicles to Former Chief of Navy, Admiral Wasantha Karannagoda, who is now the secretary to the Ministry of Highway.

The Defence Secretary Dr. Gotabahaya Rajapaksha is said to be behind the campaign against General Fonseka. He has confided to his friendly media about his endeavors to marginalize the retired General as he fears he will undermine his authority in the Defense establishment.

Officially all security matters of the General Fonseka are dealt by the President’s Secretary Lalith Weerathunaga. But he is unable to fulfill his responsibility due to highhanded behaviour of the Defense Secretary. According to Dr Gothabaya Rajapakse, the retired General is planning to move to a rented house from 20th November.
