Tamashas by the President is violating election laws – Commissioner of Elections

A special communique issued by the Commissioner of Elections says that it is illegal to hold functions at Temple Trees utilizing state property at a time the Presidential elections has been called. It adds that the particular responsible officials in the state sector has been informed that it is a violation of election laws and has requested to stop these activities immediately.

Further the communique states from the date of declaration of the Presidential up to the day of the Election, it is illegitimate to utilize state property and to evade such activities and that all are liable to adhere to this directive.
‘There had been complaints of using vehicles and helicopters of the state for election activities. Hence those who are responsible in maintaining the vehicles should not use them for any election propaganda activities of any candidate. In addition it is illegal to use the state buildings and tourist resorts for this purpose.
Further if transfers, promotions or recruitment of public servants were scheduled to be effective within this period such programmes must be postponed.
The mobile services, exhibitions and openings which are stimulated with the participation of political sectors also must be stopped as their political views are expressed in such instances.
